A Day in My Life as a Small Business Owner

People often ask what it’s like juggling life as a mom, home stager, and coffee shop/bar owner — and the honest answer is: it’s a lot. But I love it. Every day looks a little different, but here’s a peek into one of my real workdays — full of caffeine, furniture, and squeezing in little wins wherever I can.

5:30 AM — I’m up by 5:30, always. The house is quiet, and I savor that first cup of coffee while I prep bottles for Flora, who’s spending the day at her dad’s job (she’ll be a mini Chiropractor today). It’s a peaceful, gentle start before the chaos begins.

7:00 AM — I swing by Spruce to do a fast inventory check and grab another coffee (because obviously). I place our weekly alcohol order and make sure everything’s in motion for the day. It’s a quick stop, but it keeps me grounded.

8:00 AM — I run out to pick up shop supplies — mostly milks, always more oat. It’s a small but necessary part of keeping Spruce humming along.

9:00 AM — I grab a U-Haul and head to the warehouse to start pulling items for today’s staging jobs. We’ve got a destage this morning and a big new stage this afternoon (and again tomorrow). It’s going to be a full one. My team is out beachside working on the destage and picking up a Marketplace furniture score for me. Meanwhile, I hit up a few home and thrift stores to grab finishing touches for the new stage. It’s part treasure hunt, part errand sprint.

1:00 PM — I reconnect with my team and we unload the U-Haul, pick up a few more key furniture pieces, and get started at the house in Avondale. It’s big and beautiful and full of potential — my favorite kind of project.

3:00 PM — Once the team heads out for a break, I go back to the warehouse to reload for tomorrow. I actually love this part — it’s quiet, focused, and gives me space to reset before the next big push.

4:00 PM — The team meets back up with me and we load in one last round of furniture at the Avondale house. We wrap up for the day around 5:30 PM — tired, sweaty, but totally satisfied with what we pulled off.

6:00 PM — I get home and do a quick reset for tomorrow — another early one (but I weirdly love that). I throw in two loads of bathroom linens for tomorrow’s stage. Sometimes staging items get dirty, especially after a destage, and fresh, clean towels make such a difference in how a space feels. I’ll be back at the Avondale house by 6:30 AM to make room for a dresser and a couple rugs. The team will meet me around 9:45 AM — and until then, I get a little peaceful solo time to focus and get ahead (which I’ve come to really enjoy).

7:00–8:00 PM — The evening winds down with dinner, a glass of wine, and Flora’s bedtime routine. Once she’s down, I knock out a few emails — mostly folks asking about renting out Spruce for events. Then I try to shut the laptop and call it a night, because 5:30 AM will come fast.

It’s long days like these that remind me how much heart and hustle go into what we do — and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Interested in staging? Whether you’re selling your home or just want to learn more about the process, head to our website now to see our packages, past work, and more!
